Lesson 10: Start saving now

LESSON 10: START SAVING MONEY NOW - THE EASIEST WAY TO MAKE A FEW EXTRA HUNDRED A YEAR. You have probably heard of this tip, but I've done it for years and it works. There's nothing cooler than going to the bank and depositing $800 in CHANGE. Here's what you do and here's what I have done for years now. NEVER, EVER, EVER spend any coins (with the exception of bottled water, I do use coins for that.) No matter what your coin change is for the day, be it $0.99 or $0.01 you take all the change from your pockets and you put it in a jar and never touch it. You'll be surprised how fast this adds up. You can save close to a dollar a day if you eat out for lunch every day. Closer to $1.50 a day if you eat out twice a day. That's $365-547 a YEAR extra in your bank account. It's also cool because you can physically watch your savings grow in your bucket or jar or whatever you use. Buy everything with bills. Quit charging cheap things. You go to target, use a $20 and put the change in the jar. Sometimes I even throw $1 bills into the jar, or a $10 if I'm not going out much that week. It all adds up. If you have 2 people in your family, you could save $600 to $1000 a YEAR in coin change if you both eat out for lunch. You'll be surprised. Try it for a month and see how much money you've saved! Two things on this: 1) Just because you're saving change doesn't mean to go to the ATM every day because you're broke. Decide a budget at the start of the week or month and THEN do this, but don't go over your budget and don't spend the coins. 2) Don't use those fuckin' coinstar machines in the market. What a rip off! Those damn things take 10% of your money just by you being lazy and not wrapping your coins! Get off your ass and wrap your coins and save that 10%!
